Get your freak on at the “Artistic Republic of Fremont” the home of numerous truly bizarre public sculptures. Honorable mentions include the down-right counter-cultural Statue of Lenin, an authentic Soviet Union bronze specimen from Czechoslovakia; the Fremont Troll, a 13,000 pounds of steel with a Volkswagen Beetle in its hand -- truly an odd sight; and the Guidepost which is composed of sixteen signs pointing in different directions which resulted from an art attack in 1995. In the backdrop of these oddities, Freemont is also the home to high-profile tech companies like Google and Adobe. However, this unique neighborhood still clings to its artistic and rebel roots. It i also a bike-friendly since it’s part of the Burke-Gilman Trail. You can easily bike to adjacent neighborhoods like Ballard and Wallingford.
