How New Yorkers Can Help Puerto Rico

In the wake of the devastating Hurricane María, the US territory of Puerto Rico faces a long road to recovery. Basic necessities such as clean running water and gasoline are unavailable to many, and electricity and communication remain almost completely down across the island. As an effort to contribute to relief efforts for our fellow American citizens, New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio has announced that select firehouses and EMS stations throughout the city are currently accepting critically-needed supplies that will be sent to the island immediately. New Yorkers may donate any of the items listed below:

• Diapers
• Baby food
• Batteries
• First-aid supplies
• Feminine hygiene products

Please keep in mind, the city is only accepting these specific items, and they cannot be opened, used, or contain liquids. This is an opportunity for New York residents to come together and contribute tangible items that will go directly to those in need.
